Nashville, Tenn. — When Vanderbilt fans look for an example of the success that has defined the Commodores baseball program, they need not venture further than Dansby Swanson. The Marietta, Ga. native helped Vanderbilt baseball claim its first national title in 2014, when he became the Most Outstanding Player at the College World Series and a First-Team All-American. Swanson went on to become the No. 1 pick in the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft, joining former pitcher David Price as the only Vanderbilt players selected with the top overall pick.
Today, Swanson is a shortstop for his hometown Atlanta Braves, but he often makes his way to campus to train at Vanderbilt’s baseball facility. We caught up with Swanson and discussed his Commodore career, his memories of becoming a No. 1 draft pick, what makes head coach Tim Corbin tick and the differences in the college and pro games. Swanson even regaled us with the details of his lesser-known culinary talents.
