NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Head coach Geoff Macdonald and associate head coach Aleke Tsoubanos of the Vanderbilt women’s tennis team are proud to announce that Emily Appleton and Amanda Meyer have signed their National Letters of Intent to compete for the Commodores.
“We think this is a great class,” said Macdonald. “Individually, they’re both hard working and curious players who we think are going to make a big impact here at Vanderbilt, in Nashville and in the SEC.”
A native of Guildford, England, Appleton started playing tennis at the age of three and competing at nine. She is the 11th-ranked junior tennis player in the world and has competed in the juniors division of every grand slam event.
Most recently, Emily made it to the quarterfinals in the singles and doubles draw at the Australian Open Junior Championships. In early January, Appleton won both the singles and doubles titles in the Copa del Café Championships in Costa Rica.
“Emily is from around London and went to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open Juniors. She sits around the top-15 in the world and is a really motivated student and tennis player.”
A blue chip recruit out of Delray Beach, Fla., Meyer is currently the seventh-ranked junior tennis player in the nation and fourth in the state of Florida.
Meyer owns a 52-19 overall record and boasts a 15-2 record against five-star recruits. Amanda most recently won the Copa Mundial de Tenis in Ibarra, Ecuador and is the USTA Florida State Champion.
“Amanda went to the finals of the Girls’ 18 Clay Courts in Memphis and we identified her before that run as one of the most exciting prospects we had seen in a while. She’s really hard working, driven and talented… a relentless player. We kind of saw her before she took off. She had a lot of attention and chose Vanderbilt, and we’re thrilled that she’s joining us. Amanda is a great student who has a lot of intangibles of a champion.”
