On campus in Nashville — Vanderbilt head coach Derek Mason welcomed local media to the McGugin Center on Friday to preview the Commodores’ 2017 spring practice. Vanderbilt kicks off spring drills — the fourth spring under Mason — on Monday, Feb. 27.
The featured event will be a “Spring Showcase” scrimmage on Saturday, March 25 at 10 a.m. in Vanderbilt Stadium. The Showcase, which will include both scrimmage and traditional practice segments, will be free to Commodore fans and feature a post-scrimmage autograph session with Vanderbilt players.
“We’re going to utilize all 15 practices,” Mason said. “I truly believe this spring is about making sure that I know what this team is, where we’re going and where we’re headed. I truly believe maximizing those 15 practices is really important for this team.”
Mason will welcome 75 student-athletes for spring drills, including 42 letterwinners from the 2016 Vanderbilt squad that finished with impressive SEC victories over Ole Miss and Tennessee and a berth in the Camping World Independence Bowl.
