Vanderbilt’s Marqu’es Webb recently represented Vanderbilt — and the SEC — at the NCAA Convention in Nashville. Webb was one of three student-athletes to be selected to attend the event and to be apart of the voting process on proposed governance rule changes under the NCAA’s Division I autonomy process.
In addition to Webb, the other student-athlete representatives were Brady Bramlett, a former member of the Ole Miss baseball team, and Antoine Marc, a former member of the Texas A&M men’s swimming and diving team.
The student-athletes represented the SEC as part of the Autonomy Conferences’ (ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac 12, SEC) efforts to engage and empower student-athletes by giving them both a voice and vote within a transparent decision-making process.
Webb, a senior from Montgomery, Ala., has been on the Dean’s List at Vanderbilt and is a two-time recipient of the Women’s Basketball Most Improved Academic Award. On the court, she currently ranks among the SEC’s Top-10 in career rebounds, having recently secured the 500th rebound of her career, and was a Second Team All-SEC preseason pick this year.
Webb, who majors in Sociology with a minor in Corporate Strategy, is chair of the SEC Women’s Basketball Leadership Council. She has also been active in the community, joining her teammates in serving at Luke 14:12 (which benefits Nashville’s homeless) and helping collect water and supplies for both the South Carolina and Louisiana donation drives hosted by Vanderbilt Athletics when natural disasters struck those states.
