Juniors Jeren Kendall and Kyle Wright have been named first team preseason All-Americans by Baseball America.
The duo has earned All-American status from every major media outlet headed into the 2017 season. Vanderbilt is the only school with two representatives on the first team. Baseball America selects its preseason All-Americans by surveying scouting directors and national crosscheckers from major league baseball.
Kendall enters his third year on West End as the highest-rated prospect in all of college baseball. The Holmen, Wisc. native led Vandy with a .332 batting average, 63 runs and 59 RBI. He matched the school record with eight triples and belted a career-best nine home runs in 2016.
Wright is listed as one of the top pitchers in the nation after joining the Commodores’ starting rotation last season as a sophomore. The right-hander went 8-4 with a 3.09 ERA in 16 starts. The Huntsville, Ala. native struck out 107 in 93.1 innings.
The Commodores host the team’s annual banquet on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Omni Hotel in downtown Nashville before opening the season at San Diego on Feb. 17.
