NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 9 Vanderbilt women’s tennis team officially begins the 2017 season this weekend, hosting Kansas, Clemson and Virginia Tech in the ITA Kickoff Weekend.

At the conclusion on the Kansas (No. 2) and Clemson (No. 3) match on Friday at 10 a.m. Vandy is slated to take on the fourth-seeded Virginia Tech Hokies at 2 p.m.

Saturday’s consolation match is scheduled for 9 a.m., with the ITA Kickoff site championship following at 1 p.m.

There are 15 ITA Kickoff “regionals” played on both the men’s and women’s side, with four teams competing in each regional. The winners of the single-elimination event advance to next month’s ITA Division I National Team Indoor Championships.

Vanderbilt has advanced out of the ITA KOW regional stage as site champion the past four years in a row, last falling to Texas in 2011-2012.

The Commodores are fresh off a successful trip to Miami, where four members went undefeated in the Hurricane’s annual invitational. Eight of nine VU student-athletes have five or less losses on the entire year, with Sydney Campbell, Christina Rosca and Georgina Sellyn only dropping one match since August.

This weekend’s competition features seven ranked singles players and three ranked doubles teams. VU leads all four schools in ranked players, with No. 2 Astra Sharma, No. 19 Campbell and No. 28 Rosca in the ITA Top-30. Rosca and Campbell team up in doubles as the No. 54 team in the nation.
