Birmingham, Ala. – Running back Ralph Webb will represent the Commodore football team and Vanderbilt Athletics as a member of the first Southeastern Conference Football Student-Athlete Leadership Council.
The newly created Council, which consists of one representative from each SEC institution, will hold its first meeting at SEC headquarters Feb. 4.
SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey introduced new Student-Athlete Leadership Councils in 2016 for the sports of football and men’s and women’s basketball in which, in addition to the conference’s longstanding Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC), provide student-athletes with additional opportunities to engage with campus leaders and conference office staff. The SEC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Leadership Council met in September, while the SEC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) gathered in July and recently participated in a career exploration tour in Atlanta during the SEC Football Championship Weekend.
Webb, a rising senior from Gainesville, Fla., is coming off a banner campaign. Webb’s 1,283 rushing yards last year established a new Commodore single-season record. He also finished the year as the school’s career leader with 3,345 rushing yards.
Webb, who holds the team’s freshman, sophomore and junior rushing records, also produced 13 touchdowns in 2016 en route to earning second team All-SEC honors from head coaches and the Associated Press.
In addition to his accomplishments on the field, Webb is a two-time SEC Academic Honor Roll recipient working on a degree in sociology. He also spent May 2015 with a dozen other Vanderbilt students studying abroad in Australia.
The football leadership council will serve as a conduit of communication to the conference office on issues related to student-athlete experience and student-athlete wellness. It also provide feedback on proposed rules governing the SEC and NCAA.
Joining Webb on the SEC Football Student-Athlete Leadership Council are Christian Miller, Alabama; Rawleigh Williams, Arkansas; Marcus Davis, Auburn; Martez Ivey, Florida; Aaron Davis, Georgia; Greg Hart, Kentucky; Danny Etling, LSU; Shea Patterson, Ole Miss; Gerri Green, Mississippi State; Nate Brown, Missouri; Bryson Allen-Williams, South Carolina; Micah Abernathy, Tennessee; and Christian Kirk, Texas A&M.
