Vanderbilt’s Kayla Overbeck has been named the SEC Freshman of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday morning.
Overbeck, a 6-1 forward from Newbury Park, Calif., scored 18 points and pulled down 13 rebounds — establishing new career highs in both categories — during Vanderbilt’s 80-72 road win over ETSU on Thursday night.
Overbeck went 8-of-9 from the foul line in the win and logged 29 minutes of playing time while notching her first career double-double. She is averaging 9.2 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.
Overbeck’s honor marks the second consecutive week in which a Vanderbilt player has been named the SEC Freshman of the Week. Erin Whalen earned the honor last week.
The Commodores, off to a 9-1 start in Stephanie White’s first season at the helm, host Tennessee Tech on Sunday at 2 p.m.
