Vanderbilt head coach Bryce Drew has announced the signing of guard Maxwell Evans and guard Saben Lee to National Letters of Intent and each will be eligible to compete for the Commodores beginning in the fall of 2017.
Evans, a 6’2 guard from Bellaire High School in Houston, Texas, is the number 16-ranked prospect in the state of Texas and 247sports.com ranks him as the 11th-ranked combo guard nationally. Evans is also a 3-star prospect by ESPN.com and Rivals.com, and is ranked #145 nationally by Rivals. He chose the Commodores over Purdue, Northwestern, and Kansas State.
Maxwell is the son of Carlis and Sharon, and is a triplet with sisters Megan and Maya. He also has a brother Denzel, who is a running back at the University of Kansas.
“Max is a tireless worker who is very productive on both ends of the floor,” said Drew. “Being a lefty, he still finishes around the rim very well with both hands. Having great speed and strength, Max can defend multiple positions and fill the stat sheet in a variety of ways.”
“I chose Vanderbilt because Coach Drew and his staff are perfect examples of what coaches should be,” said Evans. “After my official visit, I was very impressed with not only the basketball program, but with the nationally recognized academic program. I am very excited to join the Vanderbilt Commodores!”

Lee is a 6’2 guard from Tempe, Ariz., who attended Corona Del Sol High School. Lee chose the Commodores over Louisville, Stanford, Florida State, and Nebraska.
“Saben is an extremely athletic guard who has a burst of speed and finishes above the rim,” said Drew. “He is a passionate young man in everything he does and will make an immediate impact on our program.”
Lee, the son of Amp Lee, a retired NFL player and Florida State University alum, and Natalie Williams, a Vanderbilt Law School graduate, is a four-star prospect and the number 92-ranked player by Scout.com and the number 17 point guard by 247sports.com. Lee is interested in studying Engineering, Biology, or Architecture at Vanderbilt.
“The minute I stepped off the plane for my official visit the coaching staff made me feel like it was home,” said Lee. “They are a great coaching staff and I trust that they will develop my game on and off the court, and I also feel like they want what’s in my best interest. Coach Drew’s offense seems like it will fit my game very well and I feel like he lets his players make plays that stood out to me a lot. Also, he played the point guard position at the highest level so he knows what reads look like first hand and can give me really good advice off of experience to develop my game. I’m really excited to get up to Nashville and make some Memorial Magic. Go Dores!”
