With two new head coaches on West End, Vanderbilt fans have been eyeing basketball season for several months. And now, it’s come into focus.
The season was ushered in on Friday night, when the Commodores hosted Memorial Madness — a preseason pep rally — in front of an enthusiastic crowd at Memorial Gym.
Each player from the men’s and women’s rosters were announced, as were the two first-year head coaches, Stephanie White and Bryce Drew. Both coaches addressed the fans, noting how excited they were to get started.
The night also featured a shooting contest that allowed some of the fans to team up with Commodore players to show off their skills.
The event concluded with players from both teams signing autographs for the long line of fans who came to the gym to get an early glimpse of Vanderbilt basketball.
The Vanderbilt women’s team will be back at Memorial Gym on Sunday, hosting Bellarmine in an exhibition game at 2 p.m. The Commodores will host another exhibition game next Sunday against Union, and will then open the season on Nov. 11 at home against Kennesaw State.
The Vanderbilt men also open the season on Nov. 11, facing Marquette in Annapolis, Md. The Commodores play their home opener on Nov. 15 against Belmont.
