BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For her game-winning goal in double overtime against the University of Tennessee, Vandy soccer’s Kaylann Boyd was named the SEC Freshman of the Week Monday morning.
This is Boyd’s first conference honor, and the program’s third consecutive league nod. The Atlanta native joins fellow honorees, freshman Hannon Eberts (Sept. 19) and junior Cristina De Zeeuw (Sept. 26).
A forward who has earned minutes in all 12 competitions this fall, Boyd scored the game-winning goal in the 102nd minute while also assisting on the Commodores’ first score of the night in a 3-2 double overtime win at Tennessee.
The game-winner was Boyd’s first shot of the night, which resulted in her third goal of the season. With the victory, the Commodores established their fourth-straight conference win and 100th SEC triumph in school history.
Vanderbilt, which sits in third place in the SEC, remains on the road this week. The Commodores travel to Fayetteville, Ark. this Thursday, taking on the conference leading Razorbacks at 6:00 pm CT on the SEC Network.
