NASHVILLE, Tenn. – With fall tennis officially in full swing, Baker Newman and Daniel Valent travel to Tulsa, Okla. for the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men’s All-American Championships.
The first ITA national championship tournament of the 2016-17 season, the nation’s top Division I men’s players will gather in Tulsa over the next week. Match play will take place at last year’s NCAA tournament location, the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Selected to begin competition in the pre-qualifier rounds, Newman will take the court first this Saturday, Oct. 1st. Ranked No. 21 in the nation, Valent will travel to Tulsa this upcoming Wednesday and begin main draw competition on the 6th. The singles and doubles finals are scheduled for Oct. 10th.
“Baker really wanted this,” said head coach Ian Duvenhage. “We decided that even though he could potentially miss a lot of school, which is obviously a big concern, we decided that if he wants this we’ll give him the opportunity. This is a great opportunity for him, and he feels like he can go deep into the draw. He’s going to play a ton of matches and face a lot of good players. We’re excited to see what he can do.”
The ITA Men’s All-American event page will include draw updates, links to scoring updates, live streaming and photo galleries, in addition to daily main draw recaps. FloTennis will live stream up to four courts each day of the main draw at www.flotennis.com. You can also follow the conversation on Twitter by following @ITA_Tennis and using the hashtag #TulsaITA.
