Senior Matthias Schwab once again proved he is one of the world’s top amateur golfers after finishing in sixth place individually at the World Amateur Team Championship in Riviera Maya, Mexico, with a final total of 11-under, 275 (67-72-69-67). Schwab helped push his native Austria to third-place among 71 teams participating in the four-day event with a final score of -18-under par, 554 (139-140-138-137).
Schwab and his Austrian teammates Michael Ludwig and Markus Maukner tied with Ireland for third place at 18-under par and finished one shot behind second-place England. Australia won the team event with a final total of -38, 534. Seventeen of the top 21 amateurs in the world competed in the tournament.
The finish was the best-ever by an Austrian team at the event, which has been held on a biannual basis since 1958.
