NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt running back Ralph Webb and linebacker Oren Burks have been named the Tennessee Sportswriters Association Offensive and Defensive players of the week for their performances against Middle Tennessee this past Saturday.
Webb ran for a career-high 211 yards and scored two touchdowns against the Blue Raiders. It was the third highest single-game total in Vanderbilt history and the most rushing yards in a game by a Commodore since 1978 when Frank Mordica ran for 321 yards against Air Force. Webb earned his 26th consecutive start and eclipsed the 100-yard plateau for the fourth time in his last six games. He enters the third week of the season needing 777 yards to become Vanderbilt’s all-time leading rusher.
Burks filled the stat sheet with four tackles, one sack, one interception and a career-high three pass-breakups. He returned the interception 59 yards, recording the first interception by a Commodore this season. Burks’ sack in the fourth quarter was the first sack of his career.
Vanderbilt travels to Georgia Tech this weekend to take on the Yellow Jackets for the first time since 2009.
