NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Head coach Ian Duvenhage, associate head coach Jamie Hunt and the Vanderbilt men’s tennis team is excited to announce the fall tournament schedule for the 2016-’17 season.
VU begins the fall season in late September, and after potentially seven competitions, closes out the fall in early November.
Returning to five of last season’s tournaments and heading back to the Georgia Tech Invitational for the first time in six seasons, the ‘Dores will face some of the top individuals and squad’s in the nation in preparation for the dual season.
Vandy kicks-off the year on Sept. 23rd, traveling to Athens, Ga. for Southern Intercollegiates. The ‘Dores made their last appearance in the Bulldog’s tournament in 2014, where the Commodores debuted freshmen Tate Allwardt, Baker Newman and Daniel Valent.
Following Southern Intercollegiates, Vandy hopes to send representatives to Tulsa, Okla. for ITA All-American Championships, the first premiere tennis event of the season. Last season Valent participated in singles action and joined 2016 grad, Rhys Johnson, in doubles play. Qualifying play for All-Americans begins Oct. 1st, with tournament play starting the sixth.
While a few student-athletes will be competing in Tulsa, the rest of the Commodore crew will be back in the Peach state, playing in the Georgia Tech Invitational.
Vanderbilt remains in Tennessee for the squad’s next two tournaments, first traveling to Knoxville for ITA Regionals. Singles and doubles regional champions advance to ITA National Indoors, which run Nov. 3-6 in Flushing, N.Y.
October 28th-30th Vandy hosts its annual Commodore Scramble on the home courts of the Currey Tennis Center. While Commodores could potentially be competing in National Indoors, the remainder of the team will cap the fall in Tuscaloosa, Ala., squaring off against conference teams in the SEC Fall Classic.
