Vanderbilt sophomore Will Gordon advanced to match play this morning in a playoff at the U.S. Amateur after birdieing his first playoff hole at the Oakland Hills Country Club’s North Course in Bloomfield Hills, Mich., on the par three, 178-yard 10th hole.

Gordon was one of three golfers to advance in the playoff on the first hole, with five more spots available for the round of 64 match-play portion of the tournament, which begins today.

Senior Matthias Schwab, who qualified Monday, tees off at 12:40 p.m. ET against Brandon Pierce of LSU, while Gordon starts his match-play round at 1:10 p.m. ET against Wyndham Clark, who plays for Oklahoma State.
