‘Dores hold two practices Tuesday

Aug. 16, 2016

On campus on Nashville – The Commodores returned to the practice field Tuesday with their third two-a-day session of preseason camp, holding morning and afternoon workouts.

The team started its day with a fast-paced 90-minute practice at the John Rich Practice Facility, focusing most of its attention on fundamentals, conditioning, special teams and scheme development. In the afternoon, the squad went indoors, spending much of the session preparing for an array of goal line and last-second situations.

Head Coach Derek Mason was pleased with the team’s intent Tuesday, a day after expressing displeasure with the squad’s attention to detail in a solo session Monday.

“We’re in the middle of camp and it’s tough physically and mentally. You just have to fight through the adversity,” Mason said. “We talk about getting the most out of our practices, doing the little things correctly and working to dominate the day. We went about our business better today.”

When asked by a reporter if the offense or defense performed better after the morning workout, Mason responded directly, “That’s not how I feel. Today, Vanderbilt got better.”

The Commodores are scheduled to return for a single practice Wednesday.
