NASHVILLE, Tenn. – With the Commodores first preseason exhibition in the books and another in sight this Saturday, the Southeastern Conference released the league coaches’ preseason poll.
After last season’s success and SEC tournament berth, conference head coaches predicted the Commodores to finish 10th in the league with 54 votes, ahead of Georgia, Arkansas, Alabama and Mississippi State.
Florida was predicted to win to the 2016 SEC women’s soccer title in voting by the league’s 14 head coaches. The Gators received 165 points that included 10 first-place votes, topping Texas A&M’s 154 points (four first-place votes).
The SEC opens up its 24th season of women’s soccer with five teams ranked in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Preseason Rankings. Florida is ranked seventh, followed by Texas A&M eighth, Auburn 12th, Ole Miss 22nd and South Carolina 24th. LSU is among the teams receiving votes in the poll.
Poll points were compiled on a 13-12-11-10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 basis, though each coach was not allowed to vote for their own team.
