NASHVILLE, Tenn. – With the conclusion of the NCAA team tournament, four Commodores look to see just how far they can go in the NCAA Singles and Doubles Tournament. Taking place in Tulsa, Okla. the individual tournament begins May 25th and lasts through May 30th.
Frances Altick, Sydney Campbell, Courtney Colton and Astra Sharma remain in Tulsa, looking to extend their season with spots in the 2016 draw. Altick, Campbell and Sharma will all begin singles action Wednesday, May 25th, with Colton joining Campbell on later in the day with doubles play.
“We had a really good rest day today coming off the final four and had a nice practice in the middle of the day,” said head coach Geoff Macdonald. “We’re all now looking forward to the individual tournament.”
Earning a 9-16 seed, automatic All-American, No. 14 Frances Altick will be the first Commodore out on the court tomorrow afternoon, taking on DePaul’s No. 85 Yulia Shupenia, at 1:00 pm CT. Altick and Shupenia have never competed against one another.
At 3:30, No. 18 Sydney Campbell returns to the Michel D. Case Tennis Center for her opening match against Oklahoma State’s No. 47 Katarina Adamovic. Adamovic, a member of the NCAA Runner-Up Cowgirl team comes off a huge win over No. 25 Carol Zhao in the NCAA Championship.
Like her other two teammates, No. 32Astra Sharma will conclude the day’s action going up against a fresh face, with her first round match coming against UNC’s No. 57 Jesse Aney.
In doubles, No. 14 Colton/Campbell will face a challenging opponent in No. 19 Matea Cutura/Christine Maddox of Pepperdine at a time which is expected will be announced tomorrow. Wednesday’s tournament appearance is Colton’s fourth appearance in the individual tournament, and graduates having competed in this prestigious event each season since her freshman year.
