There will be plenty of black-and-gold in the mix at next week’s NCAA East Regionals.
For the second year in a row, the Commodores will be sending nine representatives to Jacksonville, Fla., for the regional meet, which runs May 26-28. Vanderbilt will compete in a total of seven events — just one shy of the school record that the Commodores established last season.
Simone Charley, the All-American triple jumper, will be one of Vanderbilt’s representatives, and will carry a No. 2 ranking into the meet. Also in action for the Commodores will be Sara Barron, Sarah Bell, Carmen Carlos, Skyler Carpenter, Courtney Clayton, Katherine Delaney, Jennifer Edobi and Vanessa Valentine. (See list below for rankings).
“I know the women are excited to extend their season and we look forward to finishing on a positive note,” said Vanderbilt head coach Steve Keith. “This is what it’s all about — championship track and field.”
In addition to Charley, two other Commodores will carry Top-15 rankings into the regionals — Delaney at No. 6 in the 1500, and Valentine at No. 11 in the 5k.
“Everyone has worked very hard to get to this point,” said Keith, “and we hope to take advantage of this opportunity.”
