Nashville, Tenn. – Sophomore Kyle Wright has been named the Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week for his three-hit shutout at No. 1 Florida last Saturday.
Wright was magnificent against the top-ranked Gators in spinning his first career complete game and joining Jordan Sheffield as the only two Commodores to throw shutouts this season. Wright did not allow a runner to reach second base in his seventh win of the year, limiting the Gators to just five base runners – three singles and two walks. The Huntsville, Ala. native matched his career-high with 10 strikeouts, equaling his total from earlier this year at Missouri. He pitched the Commodores to the team’s seventh shutout victory of the season in Vanderbilt’s 5-0 win.
Wright is set to pitch for USA Baseball’s Collegiate National Team this summer and play alongside Vandy teammate Jeren Kendall, who along with Wright and Sheffield are the three Commodores this season to earn weekly accolades from the league this season.
