The Vanderbilt men’s golf team will play host to 12 other teams and 10 individuals at the Franklin, Regional on the Vanderbilt Legends Club’s North Course May 16-18 in their quest for the 2016 NCAA Men’s Golf Championship. The Commodores, who are making their fourth consecutive appearance in an NCAA Regional for the first time in program history, will be the number two seed when play begins.
The #2-seed Commodores will compete with #1 Texas, #3 LSU, #4 Washington, #5 Virginia, #6 Houston, #7 Pepperdine, #8 Kennesaw State, #9 Michigan, #10 Troy, #11 East Carolina, #12 Tennessee-Martin, and #13 Georgetown. Individuals include Ryan Cole of James Madison, Ryan Cornfield of South Carolina Upstate, Matthew Lowe of Richmond, Jose Montano of Xavier, Patrick Cover and Thomas Eldridge of UNC Wilmington, Joey Lane of Virginia Tech, Jake McGlone of UNC Greensboro, Ryan Wenzler of Wright State, and U Minn Woon of Fairleigh Dickinson. The top five teams and top individual not on those teams will advance to the Eugene Country Club May 27-June 1.
“This is an exciting day and time for our program to be hosting an NCAA Regional,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh, who has advanced to postseason play in every season since his arrival in the fall of 2012. “It will be great to welcome some of the best teams and players from around the country to Nashville. Vanderbilt Legends Club is a special place and I know the staff and membership will welcome all the student-athletes, coaches, and fans with open arms. It will give golf fans in our area the opportunity to see up close some of the best young players in the world.”
The Vanderbilt Legends Club’s North Course will be set up as a par-72, 7,190-yard format for the tournament. Eighteen holes will be played Monday through Wednesday.
Thirteen teams were selected to three regional sites and 14 were selected in three others, with the top five teams from each regional advancing to the NCAA Championship. Additionally, the top individual not affiliated with a qualifying team in the six regionals will also advance to the finals at the Eugene Country Club.
