The Commodores’ stellar regular season was recognized by the SEC’s coaches on Wednesday when three Commodores, Matthias Schwab, Will Gordon, and Patrick Martin, were honored for their play on the course, and Carson Jacobs was rewarded for his work off of the course.
Schwab, Gordon, and Martin are the 16th, 17th, and 18th All-SEC selections in the history of the program, with head coach Scott Limbaugh coaching eight of those 18 honorees.
Schwab, a junior from Rohrmoos, Austria, was named to the All-SEC First Team for the second consecutive season after leading the Commodores with a 70.74 stroke average, one individual championship, two top five finishes, and five top 10’s. Schwab shared medalist honors at the Carmel Cup at the Pebble Beach Golf Links, finished third at the Mason Rudolph Championship, tied for seventh at the Schenkel Invitational, tied for eighth at the Querencio Cabo Collegiate, and eighth at the DICK’s Sporting Goods Challenge. So far this season, he has carded 10 rounds in the 60’s, including a season-low 67 in the first round of the Mason Rudolph Championship.
In all, this is the third time Schwab has been honored by the SEC. He was named to the All-Freshman team in the spring of 2014.

Vanderbilt’s freshman duo, Gordon and Martin, were each named an All-SEC Second Team selection and a member of the All-Freshman team by the league’s coaches. The two Commodore freshmen occupied two of the five spots on the All-Freshman squad.
Gordon has played in 27 stroke-play rounds and averaged 70.89 strokes per round, the second-lowest stroke average by a freshman in the SEC this season. He tied for first at the Schenkel Invitational (67-73-63), which included a final round 63, and also posted a final-round 63 at the SunTrust Gator Invitational. The freshman from Davidson, N.C., has had six top 10 finishes this season – the Carmel Cup (T-10th), the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational (T-4th), the SunTrust Gator Invitational (6th), the Schenkel Invitational (T-1st), and the Mason Rudolph Championship (T-4th), and has a 3-0 record in match play this season, defeating Jimmy Stangler of Virginia (2 & 1) at the DICK’s Collegiate Challenge Cup, and Vince Whaley of Georgia Tech (4 & 3) and Ben Schlottman of Auburn (3 & 2) at the FarmLinks Collegiate Match Play. So far this season, he has posted nine rounds in the 60’s, and his pair of 63’s ties a league-low this season with Florida’s Sam Horsfield, but he is the only player in the SEC with two rounds of 63.

Martin has played in 27 stroke-play rounds and averaged 71.19 strokes per round, while carding four top 10 finishes – the Carmel Cup (T-4th), the SunTrust Gator Invitational (T-3rd), the Schenkel Invitational (T-7th), and the Mason Rudolph Championship (T-10th). So far this season, he has posted nine rounds in the 60’s this season, including all three rounds at the SunTrust Gator Invitational and a season-low 66 in the final round of the SunTrust Gator. Martin has a 3-0 record in match play this season, defeating Danny Walker of Virginia (4 & 3) at the DICK’s Collegiate Challenge Cup, and Travis Joiner of Georgia Tech (5 & 4) and Michael Johnson of Auburn, the eighth-ranked player in the nation, (6 & 5) at the FarmLinks Collegiate Match Play.

Jacobs was named to the SEC Community Service team for his work off of the course, which included organizing the men’s golf team and staff to help serve lunch to the homeless for the Luke 14:12 mission. He also helped organize a Vanderbilt Water Drive for the flood victims in South Carolina in the fall of 2015 and helped raise money for the Boys and Girls Club of Middle Tennessee.
