Sheffield dominated No. 18 Kentucky in his first career shutout, striking out a career-high 14 in Vanderbilt’s first complete game effort of the season.
Recorded at least one strikeout in all nine innings, including striking out the side in the third inning and striking out six of the first 10 batters of the game.
Allowed only three Wildcats to reach scoring position and none to reach third.
First Vandy pitcher since Carson Fulmer last season to strike out 14 in a shutout victory.

Commodore Notes
No. 5 Vanderbilt topped Middle Tennessee on Tuesday and followed up with a series win over No. 18 Kentucky over the weekend for the Commodores’ seventh series victory of the season… Vanderbilt scored four runs in the fourth inning and held off the Blue Raiders 7-4 on Tuesday at Hawkins Field… Ethan Paul matched a career-high with three hits and drove in two runs… Ryan Johnson picked up the win in his first start of the year allowing two runs on five hits over four frames… The Commodores claimed the series opener against the Wildcats on Friday night behind an outstanding performance from Jordan Sheffield… The right-hander punched out a career-high 14 in his first career shutout and first complete game by a Commodore this year… Jeren Kendall drove in two runs in the win with his RBI-single along with Connor Kaiser’s RBI-single in the seventh provided insurance for Sheffield… Vanderbilt rallied for two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to clinch the series with a 3-2 win… Bryan Reynolds’ two-run single with the bases loaded provided the winning run… Kyle Wright was sharp over seven innings allowing only one unearned run with six strikeouts in a no decision… Matt Ruppenthal picked up the win in relief with Ben Bowden notching his seventh save with a scoreless ninth… A three-run, two-out double in the seventh inning sunk the Commodores on Sunday in a 3-0 loss to Kentucky… VU was limited to just five hits… John Kilichowski took the loss allowing two runs on two hits in 2.1 innings out of the pen… Patrick Raby started his first career Southeastern Conference game and turned in four scoreless innings with five strikeouts… This week Vanderbilt hosts Central Arkansas on Tuesday before returning to the road at Tennessee for a three-game series beginning Friday.
