NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Coming off a huge 13-3 victory over the Cincinnati Bearcats, the Commodores look to improve off their first conference win this Saturday, taking on UConn in Storrs, Conn. at 10:00 am CT.
Following a rough six game slide, a reinspired Commodore squad took the field Wednesday earning a quick 6-0 lead going into the locker room. The Dore defense only allowed three goals in their what would be the squad’s largest victory, 13-3, since the home opening 16-6 victory over Kennesaw State.
Heading into Saturday’s matchup, four Commodores have scored in the double-digits with redshirt-junior Kelly Chandler leading VU with a career-high 32 goals on 61 shots.
Both Jill Doherty and Margaret Fee have 20+ draws to their name, with Emma Dagres leading the team in caused turnovers (19) and ground balls (28).
Callahan Kent has been outstanding for the Commodores all season, amassing 132 saves, which ranks sixth in the nation. The Norwell, Mass. Native averages 10.15 saves per game, eighth nationally, in her 13 starts this season.
Tied with Florida with undefeated conference records, the Huskies will be a challenge for the ‘Dores as the squad owns a 10-2 record with three student-athletes scoring 20+ goals.
UConn’s two losses of the season came in a 15-6 decision against UMass and a 17-7 loss to then-No. 4 Syracuse. In their last matchup, Caroline Peters scored in sudden death double overtime to lift Vanderbilt to third straight win, in a10-9 victory over the Huskies in Music City.
