‘Dores back on road to play Temple Owls

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt lacrosse team hits the road this weekend, taking on conference foe, Temple, in Philadelphia. The Dores and Owls will both be searching for their first BIG EAST wins at noon on Saturday, with VU having fallen to Florida and Georgetown.

This week in conference honors, Vandy goalie, Callahan Kent, earned the league’s Defensive Player of the Week award. The junior, has limited the opposition to single-digit goals five times this season and made double-digit saves for the seventh time last Saturday against GU.

Kent is ranked 3rd in the country in saves with 120 in 11 games. The Norwell, Mass. native comes in 4th, averaging 10.91 saves per game. The Commodore starter is at No. 17 in save percentage, playing 660 minutes with a .490 save percentage.

Heading into the weekend, a quartet of Commodores has scored in the double digits.

Kelly Chandler leads the team in scoring with 27 goals on 52 shots. Junior, Jill Doherty leads in points (30) and assists (15), with Margaret Fee leading VU at the draw with 19.

The ‘Dores have had no problem with clears this season, boasting an 87% clear percentage.

Temple boasts an 8-3 record this season, and suffered one tight league loss to No. 2 Florida, 10-9. The Owls offensive unit spreads scoring around well, as eight student-athletes have scored in the double-digits this season.

Both Megan Tiernan and Rachel Schwaab have 20+ goals this season, with Schwaab leading the team in assists at 13. On the draw, Morgan Glassford ranks 10th nationally with 55 to her name.

In their last meeting, Vanderbilt earned its first league win of the 2015 season in a 14-8 victory over the Owls at home.
