‘Dores closeout regular season road contests

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 5 Vanderbilt women’s tennis team hits the road for one last time during the regular season. This weekend the ‘Dores’ Friday night competition takes place against the No. 60 Missouri Tigers. VU’s road finale is on Sunday in Fayetteville, Ark. against the 27th-ranked Razorbacks.

Vandy went 2-0 in the Magnolia State this weekend, defeating MSU 5-1, and Ole Miss 4-1. In addition to the two team victories, No. 13 Frances Altick earned her 100th Commodore victory and made her WTA debut, playing in the Volvo Car Open Monday afternoon. Against MSU the clinch was awarded to No. 21 Astra Sharma, with Georgina Sellyn clinching against the Tigers.

In the latest Oracle/ITA rankings, a trio of Commodores remains in the top 25 with Altick leading the squad at No. 13 in the nation. Sydney Campbell and Astra Sharma follow the senior at No. 19 and 21 respectively. In doubles, Sharma and Courtney Colton pair up as the 52nd-ranked team.

Scouting Mizzou:
The Tigers head into Friday’s match with a 15-8 (2-7) record, the most wins in program history. Missouri’s two league victories came in two 4-3 wins over Alabama and Tennessee. In their last meeting, the then-No. 12 Commodores handed the Tigers a 6-1 defeat in Music City.

Senior, Ellie Yates, will reunite with her sister, Turner, who is a freshman on the Tiger team.

Scouting the Razorbacks:
Arkansas heads into Sunday’s matinee with a 16-8 (5-4) record, and going 7-3 at home. Before taking on the ‘Dores, the Razorbacks face No. 21 Kentucky on Friday afternoon.

Two Razorbacks appear in the latest poll, with senior Yuliya Lysa leading the squad as the No. 34 player in the country. Freshman standout Ana Oparenovic owns the No. 86 spot in the country, but has lost her last four SEC competitions on court two. Lysa and Shannon Hudson team up in doubles action as the 77th-ranked team in the country.

Last season the ‘Dores earned a commanding 6-1 victory over the Hogs, with one loss coming on court three.
