Commodore Notes
No. 3 Vanderbilt went 3-1 during week with a big series victory over No. 5 South Carolina over the weekend after a win over Belmont on Tuesday at First Tennessee Park… The Commodores cruised by the Bruins 8-2 on Tuesday night at the first collegiate game ever at First Tennessee Park, home of the Triple-A Nashville Sounds… Collin Snider punched out four over two scoreless innings out of the pen to earn the win… Vandy scored four runs in the first inning on Thursday night to be in control the whole way in a 6-3 win over No. 5 South Carolina… Alonzo Jones drove in three runs with a pair of hits with fellow freshman Ethan Paul hitting his second home run in the win… Jordan Sheffield was sharp in his fourth win of the year striking out nine over seven innings before Ben Bowden worked two scoreless innings for his third save… Vanderbilt was shutout at Hawkins Field for the first time since 2013 on Friday night in a 4-0 loss… The Dores had just two hits in the loss with Kyle Wright serving as the tough-luck loser allowing two runs over a career-high 7.1 innings… The Commodores rallied back to clinch the series on Saturday with a 10-6 win over the Gamecocks in a back-and-forth game… Penn Murfee drove in three runs with two hits and Jeren Kendall belted his fifth homer of the year… Ben Bowden worked the final 2.1 innings to notch his team-best fourth save of the season… This week Vanderbilt hosts Lipscomb Tuesday night at Hawkins Field before hitting the road to visit No. 15 LSU beginning Thursday night… The trip to Baton Rouge will be the Commodores’ first since 2012.
