BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southeastern conference announced women’s tennis honors Wednesday morning, with senior Frances Altick named the SEC Player of the Week.
This is Altick’s second time representing the conference as its player of the week, having earned the honor first on April 2, 2014.
The senior from Monroe, La. currently leads the squad in the Oracle/ITA rankings at No. 17 in the country. Going undefeated in singles and doubles last weekend, overall Altick owns an undefeated 12-0 overall individual record and 7-0 SEC slate. Going 4-0 this weekend, Altick’s wins helped generate a 7-0 sweep over Tennessee and a 4-3 defeat over the No. 3 UGA Bulldogs.
Against Georgia, Altick earned her fifth ranked win of the season (5-0), knocking off No. 27 Carolina Brinson in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.
With an impressive 99-31 Commodore singles record, Altick looks to close out her senior season joining last season’s graduates, Ashleigh Antal and Marie Casares, in Vanderbilt’s 100-win club.
Frances and the rest of the No. 5 Commodores will be in action this Friday at 11:00 am CT. Vandy’s original match at MSU has been moved to Friday, as inclement weather is in the forecast in Mississippi on Thursday.
