NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 49 Vanderbilt men’s tennis team heads back to West End to continue league action. Coming off two thrilling 4-3 victories on the road, the Commodores are excited to host No. 7 Texas A&M Friday at 5:00 pm, and the No. 28 LSU Tigers Sunday at noon.
This past weekend, the squad upset then-No. 17 Kentucky on the road, 4-3. Senior Rhys Johnson clinched helped clinch doubles and the victory in a third set tiebreaker. Against Tennessee on Sunday, the Commodores found themselves in a 3-1 deficit, but won out on courts one, three and five to seal their 11th victory of the season.
After two quality ranked wins over No. 51 and No. 5 in the country, Johnson and Cameron Klinger debuted in the Oracle/ITA polls as the No. 33 team in the country. Individually, the Dores now have two ranked singles players with Daniel Valent in at No. 67 and Klinger premiering at No. 92.
Scouting the Aggies:
Texas A&M travels north to Nashville boasting a 19-4 overall record and 5-1 SEC slate. The Aggies lone loss of conference action came in Fayetteville, with a 5-2 setback against the Razorbacks.
A trio of Aggies own spots in the latest rankings. Sophomore Arthur Rinderknech leads the squad, ranked 18th in the country. Shane Vinsant and Jordi Arconada follow in the individual rankings at 14th and 9th respectively. In tandems, Rinderknech and Jackson Withrow team up on court one, and are ranked 18th in the nation.
Scouting the Tigers:
LSU heads into Sunday’s SEC showdown ranked no. 49 in the latest rankings. The Tigers own an 8-8 overall record, going 1-5 in conference play. LSU’s one win in SEC play came in a 5-2 victory against the Auburn Tigers.
Individually, the Tigers have one ranked player with Jordan Daigle coming in at No. 69. Diagle is joined by Boris Arias in tandems, as the duo makes up the No. 10 team in the country.
In their last meeting, the Tigers upset the No. 11 Commodores 4-1 in Baton Rouge.
