Southland Bowling League Championship Notes

Vanderbilt travels to New Orleans for Friday and Saturday’s Southland Bowling League Championship.

The format is a best four of seven Baker match play out of a bracket that has already been established. Play begins Friday at 9:30 (CDT) at the AMF All-Star Lanes in Kenner, La.

Vanderbilt is the tourney’s No. 2 seed behind top-seeded and No. 1 rated Arkansas State, who is fresh from victory in Vandy’s Columbia 300 Music City Classic last weekend. It’s a powerful league with No.3 seed Sam Houston and No. 4 Stephen F. Austin also among the favorites and several other teams capable of pulling an upset. The Commodores face No. 7 Valparaiso in the opener with the winner facing the winner of Sam Houston vs. Tulane.

The tournament is double-elimination so it is possible for a team to emerge from the loser’s bracket to take the title.

Vandy won last year’s inaugural championship with Nicole Mosesso named the tourney MVP and Giselle Poss making the all-tournament team.

The 2016 Southland Bowling League championship tournament will be broadcast in its entirety on InsideBowling.com. Fans can watch live coverage, anchored by Mike Flanagan, for free throughout the event.

Vanderbilt is taking nine team members: Tori Ferris, Amanda Fry, Robyn Renslow, Nicole Powell, Giselle Poss, Olivia Wirtz, Katie Stark, Kristin Quah and Jordan Newham.

The session timelines begin with first round play at 9:30 Friday, the second round should start at 11:15 a.m., Round 3 is planned at 2:30 p.m. and Round 4 about 4:15. The loser bracket winner is determined Saturday at 9:35 a.m. and the championship match is at noon Saturday.

Single-day passes for Saturday or Sunday are available for $10. Two-day passes are $15. Children under the age of five and students at Southland Bowling League institutions are free with a valid student ID.
