Dores host #19 Blue Jays in mid-week matchup

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt lacrosse team is back in action March 16th, taking on their fourth ranked foe of the season, No. 19 Johns Hopkins. Action begins at 2:00 pm Wednesday afternoon at the Vanderbilt Lacrosse Complex.

The Dores head into the mid-week matchup with a 4-3 record. In their last competition on Saturday, Vandy fell in a close 15-11 contest to the Penn State Nittany Lions.

The Commodores boast four student-athletes scoring in the double-digits. Kelly Chandler leads the black and gold with 20 goals and is tied with Jill Doherty with21 points. Most recently, Chandler led the attack against Penn State securing her fourth 3+ goal game of the season with four goals and two assists.

Additional standouts for the Commodores include Doherty with 10 assists, Margaret Fee with 11 draw controls and Emma Dagres with 12 caused turnovers.

In goal, Callahan Kent has been a solid and dependable force for the VU defense. The junior from Norwell, Mass. has 76 saves to her name, averaging almost 11 saves per game. Kent has an unbelievable outing against PSU, recording a career-high 17 stops,

For the Blue Jays, senior Dene’ DiMartino looks to cause problems for the Vanderbilt defense, as she leads Johns Hopkins with 24 goals and a commanding 41 draw controls (12th in nation). Junior midfielder Haley Schweizer has amassed a team-high 18 goals this season on 45 shots.

Caroline Federico sits in goal for the Blue Jays and as started all eight of their games this season. The junior has 59 stops to her name, averaging 7.58 saves per game.

As former conference foes in the American Lacrosse Conference, Wednesday’s clash will be the 18th time in series history and eighth on West End. VU leads the series against Hopkins 10-7. In their last meeting, the Blue Jays came out on 13-3 in Baltimore.
