Commodores move into off season

March 14, 2016

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt head coach Melanie Balcomb said on Monday that the Commodores have decided not to participate in the WNIT and have begun their preparations for next season.

“We have a long history of playing in the NCAA Tournament — having done so in 12 of the past 14 years — and it’s the standard for our program,” said Balcomb. “We expect and believe we will be back in the NCAA Tournament next year. So right now, our plan is to get healthy and start working toward that goal immediately with our postseason workouts.”

The Commodores finished the season with an 18-14 record and advanced to the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament. The team is also bringing in a six-member recruiting class that is ranked as high as No. 6 in the nation by Blue Star Report.

“With the excitement of our incoming class, five players with starting experience and 70 percent of our scoring returning — along with the momentum we gained by winning three of our final four games this season — we believe we have a lot to look forward to as we begin preparing for next year,” said Balcomb.
