VU hosts Georgia/Ball State in Sunday doubleheader

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Vanderbilt men’s tennis team hosts the No. 17 Georgia Bulldogs (12:00 pm) and the Ball State Cardinals (4:00 pm) in its last doubleheader of the 2016 season. VU, 8-7, heads into Sunday’s matches coming off a 5-2 SEC opener to the South Carolina Gamecocks.

Against South Carolina, VU earned the doubles point after securing the upset victory on court one over No. 51 Fennell/O’Keefe; 6-3. Tate Allwardt and Baker Newman took care of business on court three, with a dominant 6-1 victory.

VU suffered hard losses on all courts Thursday night, except court five where Kris Yee came out victorious; 6-4, 7-5. Daniel Valent and Cameron Klinger own the best records on the team thus far this season, with No. 54 Valent owning an 8-3 dual record at one and Klinger a 9-4 record predominately playing on court two.

UGA heads to West End with three singles players and two doubles duo’s earning spots in the latest Oracle/ITA rankings. Boasting a 7-3 record, the Bulldogs are 2-0 in conference action with wins over MSU and Alabama.

Sunday’s 12:00 pm match will be the Dogs first SEC road test. In their last meeting, UGA defeated the `Dores 4-1 in Athens.

At 4:00 pm the Commodores take on the 4-5 Cardinals. BSU takes another Nashville team, in the Lipscomb Bison on Saturday. Ball State has two 7-0 sweeps to their name, taking down IU Southeast and Taylor. Last season Vanderbilt defeated Ball State 7-0 at home.
