Dores set for SEC opener against Gamecocks

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – It’s a big week for the Vanderbilt men’s tennis team as the squad opens up SEC play Thursday, March 10th, against the No. 69 South Carolina Gamecocks.

Thursday’s league opener will begin at 5:00 pm CT, with action taking place at the Currey Tennis Center.

VU heads into this week’s matches ranked No. 56 by the ITA and owning an 8-6 record. The Commodores come off of a hard 7-0 loss to the No. 1 UNC Tar Heels, where five singles courts all went to three sets.

The ‘Dores boast a ranked singles player and doubles team, as No. 54 Daniel Valent owns an 8-2 record in his sophomore season. Alongside junior Pen Binet, the tandem debuted in this week’s Oracle/ITA rankings as the No. 76 pairing in the nation. Binet and Valent currently own a 4-1 record, with a nice ranked win over Columbia’s No. 33 Rolski/Vermeer; 6-4.

South Carolina heads to Nashville with a 7-8 overall recorded and 0-2 SEC slate. The Gamecocks will compete against Murray State prior to their match at the Currey Tennis Center.

Carolina comes off two 5-2 losses at the hands of the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Mississippi State Bulldogs. SC has won the doubles point in nine competitions and has two ranked duos in this week’s rankings; Fennell/O’Keefe in at No. 51, and Fennell/Mayronne ranked No. 69.
