Commodore Notes
No. 2 Vanderbilt won its first road series of the year at Stanford, splitting an impromptu doubleheader on Thursday before clinching the series on Sunday… The Commodores’ week began with the team’s game against Tennessee Tech being postponed due to rain on Tuesday… The Dores then travelled to Stanford for a three-game series but weather again impacted the series with the teams deciding to play a doubleheader on Thursday… Vanderbilt’s eight-game winning streak to open the season was snapped in a 4-1 loss… Jordan Sheffield took the loss allowing a career-high nine hits over five innings, giving up three runs, two earned… Will Toffey had two hits in the loss… Vandy bounced back quickly to win the nightcap 4-1 behind a strong start from Ben Bowden… The big lefty allowed just two hits over five frames to go along with four strikeouts to get the win… Matt Ruppenthal and Hayden Stone combined to pitch four no-hit innings to finish off the victory with Stone earning his first save of the season… Rain washed out Saturday’s game before the two teams could finish the series on Sunday… The Commodores wrapped up the team’s third straight series victory with a 5-2 win on Sunday… Timely, two-out hitting helped the Dores rally for three runs in the fifth to provide the difference… Kyle Wright picked up the win with five solid innings allowing two runs on four hits… Hayden Stone notched his second save of the weekend with a scoreless ninth inning… Jason Delay and Will Toffey drove in two runs apiece with Delay having two hits in the win… Vanderbilt returns home to host five games this week beginning with a two-game series against Radford on Tuesday and Wednesday before hosting Xavier for three games over the weekend.
