BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Vanderbilt All-American triple jumper Simone Charley will represent the Commodores — and the SEC — at this year’s NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Charley will be one of 126 entries from the SEC to compete at the meet, according to an announcement by the NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Track and Field and Cross Country Committee on Thursday.
The championships will be held March 11-12 at the Birmingham Crossplex. The complete list of participants to the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships is available HERE.
Arkansas leads the way with 12 opportunities to score on the men’s side, while the Razorbacks are second nationally with 12 entries on the women’s side. Texas A&M has 10 entries for the men’s championship, while Florida has eight. Florida and Georgia have athletes competing in 10 events on the women’s side.
The Arkansas men and the Arkansas women won the SEC Indoor Track and Field Championships last week in Fayetteville.
The meet will be streamed live on ESPN3 on March 11 starting at 5:25 p.m. CT and March 12 at 3:55 p.m. CT. A re-air of the championship will take place on Sunday, March 13 at 6 p.m. CT on ESPN2 and Wednesday, March 23 at 9 p.m. on ESPNU.
The SEC leads the way with six men’s teams in the top-10 of the latest U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national rankings. Arkansas is ranked No. 1, while Texas A&M is No. 3, followed by Florida at No. 4, LSU at No. 5 and Tennessee at No. 6. Georgia is ranked No. 9.
The SEC also leads all conferences with seven teams in the women’s top-25. Florida is ranked second, followed by Georgia at No. 3 and Arkansas at No. 4. Tennessee is ranked No. 7, LSU is No. 10, Kentucky is No. 18 and Texas A&M is No. 20.
SEC men’s teams have won a total of 18 NCAA Indoor Track and Field championships, most recently Arkansas in 2013. SEC women’s teams have won 15 NCAA titles, including Arkansas last year.
