NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt lacrosse team closes out its three-game home stand this Sunday, Feb. 28th at 12:00 pm, taking on the Elon Phoenix. Vanderbilt heads into Sunday’s matinee with a 2-1 record, boasting wins over Kennesaw State and Furman.
Last time out:
VU hosted No. 17 Louisville Tuesday afternoon, falling 15-5. Four of the Commodore’s five goals were secured in a second half surge, within a span of almost 17 minutes.
In goal Callahan Kent leads the BIG EAST with 26 saves on the year. 12 of those saves were against the Cardinals.
2014 and 2015 leading scorer Mallory Schonk led the squad with two goals on four shots. The Commodores will also be looking to attacker Kelly Chandler as the redshirt junior has nine goals to her name so far this season.
Scouting the opponent:
The Phoenix travel to Nashville off of a huge upset over No. 10 Duke by a score of 7-6. The Phoenix (4-0) took 18 shots in the game, 14 of which were on goal, claimed 10 ground balls, won seven draws and finished 8-of-11 in clear attempts.
Sunday’s meeting marks the first meeting between the Phoenix and the Commodores on the lacrosse field. Lacrosse games are free for fans, with action taking place at the Vanderbilt Lacrosse Complex.
