NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt men’s tennis team hits the road this weekend, taking on the 20th ranked Northwestern Wildcats in Evanston, Ill. The Commodores head into Sunday’s 11:30 am competition with a 5-3 record.
VU comes off a doubleheader sweep with victories over then-No. 25 Duke and the Tennessee State Tigers. Sophomore No. 97 Daniel Valent clinched both matches as he and Rhys Johnson earned ranked wins in singles.
This past Wednesday the SEC announced weekly honors with Valent garnering SEC Player of the Week honors.
Valent and the remainder of the squad, face a tough Wildcat team who boast an 8-1 record. Northwestern has earned several ranked wins on the year, falling in just one match to then-No. 7 Illinois.
Joining Valent in the latest Oracle/ITA rankings are the Wildcat’s No. 14 Konrad Zieba and No. 57 Sam Shropshire. The duo teams up in doubles, and currently own a 6-0 record.
Vanderbilt leads the series over Northwestern, 6-3, with the teams facing each other in six consecutive seasons. Most recently, the Wildcats defeated VU in a tight 4-3 match in Nashville.
