The topic of diversity is an important one to Vanderbilt University, where faculty, staff and students strive every day to make the campus community a safe and welcoming one for everyone.
When the Commodores face Texas A&M on Sunday at 4 p.m. at Memorial Gym, the program will host “Diversity Vanderbilt: Celebrating Student Service and Engagement.”
The event celebrates the diversity of the student body by inviting and highlighting student organizations found on campus. Prior to the tip-off of Sunday’s game, a student organization fair will be held in the practice gym from 2:30 pm to 4 pm. Students and fans are invited to attend and learn about the various groups and opportunities available on campus.
The Athletics Department will also announce and recognize this year’s winner of the Perry Wallace Courage Award.
The distinguished award was created three years ago in honor of basketball legend and trailblazer Perry Wallace, the first African-American basketball player in the Southeastern Conference. It is presented annually to the individual or group that embodies the courage, values and excellence of Perry Wallace.
Wallace won the inaugural award and a year ago, former Vanderbilt Men’s Basketball player James Siakam was presented as the second recipient.
The event will be commemorated with a T-shirt give-away — fans will have a chance to receive a shirt with the “All means All” logo, which will match the shirts worn by the team.
Make your plans to come join us to celebrate Vanderbilt’s diversity!
