Vanderbilt’s bowling team left for Houston Thursday for Stephen F. Austin’s Lady Jack Classic Friday through Sunday at the Palace Lanes.
Friday’s six Baker games begin at 9:30 CST. Saturday’s six team games are at 9:25 and Sunday’s Baker bracket starts at 8:30. The matches will be livestreamed on Cube.
Vandy will be joined by 15 other teams that include a mix of Central and Eastern region programs. They are Arkansas State, Grambling, Fairleigh Dickinson, Jackson State, Long Island, Louisiana Tech, Monmouth, Nebraska, Prairie View, Sam Houston State, host Stephen F. Austin, Southern, Texas Southern, Tulane and Wisconsin-Whitewater.
The Commodores are 69-23 on the year and continue to be one of the most consistent teams in the country. While winning just one tournament to date, Vanderbilt has made the championship bracket in every event it’s entered. Last year the ‘Dores placed third here, winning their final nine matches after a slow start the first day. Perhaps more memorable was getting stranded in Houston for several days as winter weather in other parts of the country messed up the scheduled trip home. If this sounds familiar, Vanderbilt was stuck in Philadelphia for two days a couple of weeks ago when one of the largest blizzards on record hit the northeast.
New rankings were just released and Vanderbilt held its position among the nation’s top three programs. Arkansas State earned 26 of the 31 first-place votes with Nebraska getting three and Vandy the remaining two.
