NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 27 Vanderbilt men’s tennis team is back in action this week, taking on the No. 40 Memphis Tigers on Thursday at 5:00 pm and the No. 33 Harvard Crimson on Sunday at 12:00 pm.
Vandy, 3-1, heads into Thursdays competition coming off a 4-0 defeat by then-No. 19 San Diego during the ITA Kickoff Weekend in Durham, N.C. Vanderbilt is 2-0 at the Currey Tennis so far this season, with home opening sweeps over Furman and cross town neighbor Lipscomb.
Vanderbilt’s lone road win came in front of a huge audience in Murfreesboro, as the Dores defeated MTSU 6-1.
Scouting the Tigers:
Memphis heads to Nashville with one ranked player, as last season’s Ohio Valley Singles champion comes in at No. 87 in the latest Oracle/ITA poll. Watson currently has three ranked wins to his name, with his highest ranked victory coming against Notre Dame’s No. 37 Quentin Monaghan.
Scouting the Crimson:
With three doubles teams in the ITA rankings, Harvard will be a threat during tandems play. Sebastian Beltrame and Kenny Tao lead the trio, at No. 32 in the country. Brian Yeung and Andy Zhou follow at No. 39, with Yeung and Nicky Hu rounding out doubles at No. 44. In the singles rankings, Hu is the Crimson’s lone ranked player, coming in at No. 71.
Vanderbilt will also play host to Memphis and Harvard, as they compete in the Currey Tennis Center on Feb. 5th at 5:00 pm.
