NASHVILLE, Tenn. – If you were in the Currey Tennis Center this past snowy weekend you saw freshman Fernanda Contreras’ energetic, crafty and relentless type of play for the first time.
The San Luis Potosi, Mexico native, brought a lot of flare to the court, which paid off in tenfold as one of the squad’s freshest faces clinched the Commodores’ first dual match of the season; a victory over an experienced Denver senior which clinched the squad a spot in the ITA Kickoff Weekend Finale.
With a 15-2 overall record, Contreras is tied with Frances Altick for the least amount of losses on the squad. Her last loss dates back to Oct. 17th where she fell in a three set thriller in ITA regionals; 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
In her latest victory last Sunday, Contreras earned the ‘Dores their first singles win against Brown, in route to the team’s 25th-straight home victory and place at National Indoors.
Fernanda and the rest of the top-ranked Commodores are back out on the indoor courts of Currey this Saturday, with a huge match against No. 8 Stanford at 11:00 am.
