NASHVILLE, Tenn. –
The No. 26 Vanderbilt men’s tennis team is in Durham, N.C this weekend for the annual ITA Kickoff. VU squares off against the west coasts’ No. 19 San Diego Saturday at 11:00 am CT, while host school No. 23 Duke now has a bye as No. 27 Cal could not fly out due to inclement weather conditions.

With winter storm Jonas affecting parts of the southeast, match times are subject to change.

The 3-0 Commodores looks to improve their streak this weekend, keeping their eyes on the prize; a trip to Team National Indoors in Charlottesville, Va. Last season the Commodores traveled to Lexington, Ky. for the Kickoff Weekend, falling to USF, but gaining conference experience by defeating Kentucky in a 4-3 nail biter the next day.

This season, the Dores have three very formidable opponents ,with Duke posing several problems as a program who has advanced to National Indoors five years in a row, all off Kickoff weekend sweeps.

Scouting Duke:

This weekend will mark the sixth straight season hosting an ITA Kick-Off Weekend. The Blue Devils are 11- 1 overall in Kick-Off Weekend action. Duke suffered an early 4-3 loss to No. 55 Kentucky. Vanderbilt and Duke have met just three times, and once since 1981. VU owns a 2-1 advantage on the series.

Scouting San Diego:

San Diego enters the weekend 2-0 after defeating UC Irvine 4-1 and UC San Diego 4-0 last weekend. The Toreros have an experienced roster, with six upperclassmen including four seniors or graduate students. The three ranked individuals on the squad are Jordan Angus (No. 34), Uros Petronijevic (No. 35) and Romain Kalaydjian (No. 82). In tamems, Filip Vittek and Angus are ranked No. 7 in the nation.
