Quick Slant: Remembering a good man

When our men’s basketball team started the season red-hot, over-zealous network analysts blurted out thoughts of a deep NCAA run. After a costly injury and some narrow losses to quality teams, others now wonder what the future holds for the Commodores. The truth is likely somewhere in-between but don’t sell your team stock, there is a lot of basketball to be played and this is a good team.

Forbes Magazine announced its annual 30 Under 30 list recently, a Who’s Who of rising stars in American business, and Commodore tennis alum Nick Cromydas was among the selections. The 29-year old entrepreneur began New Coast Ventures, Chicago’s Premier Digital Innovation Partner. New Coast Ventures assists companies by bringing in their own “Entrepreneur-In-Residence” who helps specialize mobile apps, web design, enterprise innovation, wearable tech, and branding.

The death of George MacIntyre provided us with the opportunity to reminisce with many of his friends and colleagues. To a person, Coach Mac is primarily remembered as a good man of high character. Few even mentioned his coaching expertise. Most of us would prefer our legacy to be that of a good and caring person rather than for the tasks we performed while on the clock.

Regular readers of Commodore Nation magazine will soon miss Jerome Boettcher, who did a fine as its editor for two years. Jerome recently took a new position at George Mason University and is leaving our midst January 7.
