The Vanderbilt women’s basketball team is doing much more than simply hosting a basketball tournament during the next few days.
The Commodores are also hosting a “Week of Thanks” — a player-driven initiative that will help those who need it most during Thanksgiving.
The series of projects begins Thursday night, and will last throughout the week leading up to the Vanderbilt WBB Thanksgiving Tournament. (The tournament runs Friday and Saturday, with games at noon and 2:30 p.m. each day).
Here’s a closer look at the Week of Thanks:
Thursday, Nov. 19 – The Commodores will host a Food Drive to benefit Second Harvest. Donation boxes will be placed in the Memorial Gym lobbies for tonight’s MBB game. The MBB and WBB teams will be collecting food to benefit Second Harvest and Beat the Vols during the food drive.
Monday, Nov. 23 – The Food Drive continues, with donation boxes in the lobby for Vanderbilt WBB game against Presbyterian at 11:30 a.m.
Tuesday, Nov. 24– The Vanderbilt WBB team will go to Second Harvest to bring and sort food that has been donated.
Friday, Nov. 27 and Sat., Nov. 28 – The Commodores will host a shoe drive to support Soles4Souls during the Vanderbilt Thanksgiving Tournament. Donation boxes will again be located in the Memorial Gym lobbies.
Sunday, Nov. 29 – The Vanderbilt WBB team will hand deliver the shoes they collected to Soles4Souls.
