NASHVILLE, Tenn.  For the third straight year, Simone Charley caught the attention of the Southeastern Conference’s coaches.
The junior forward was named Second Team All-SEC by the conference’s coaches on Monday. Charley is a two-time All-SEC selection as she was named to the First Team last year and was SEC All-Freshman in 2013.
Charley, a native of Hoover, Ala., leads the team in scoring with 14 points. She is tied with teammate Lydia Simmons with five goals, but has also taken on more of a distributor role this year with a team-high four assists. She leads the team with four game-winning goals, including two in overtime thrilers at Gonzaga and No. 8 South Carolina, as they head into the SEC Tournament for the first time in five years.
Charley, a two-sport athlete and double major in psychology and sociology, is the team’s active leader with 19 career goal. She is also a three-time All-American and school record holder in the triple jump for the track team. Last year, she finished third at the NCAA Outdoor Championships and fourth at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
The Commodores (8-7-4, 4-4-3) opens the first round of the SEC Tournament against Georgia at 6 p.m. on Monday in Orange Beach, Ala. The game will be aired on SEC Network.
