The Vanderbilt women’s basketball team had an eventful day on Tuesday, with the Commodores showing off their basketball skills in the morning and displaying their speaking skills in the afternoon.
Setting the stage for the 2015-16 season, the Commodores held their first official practice bright and early Tuesday morning with a 6:30 a.m. start to their workout. In the afternoon, head coach Melanie Balcomb and a handful of players took part in Vanderbilt’s on-campus Media Day event, which included a three-session press conference in front of a large contingent of local media.
Rebekah Dahlman, Marqu’es Webb, Rachel Bell, Jasmine Jenkins and newcomer Minta Spears each participated in the press conference, along with Baclomb.
Balcomb expressed her excitement for the upcoming season, and her players underscored that emotion.
“I feel like this team brings a lot of energy — on and off the court,” said redshirt sophomore Rebekah Dahlman. “This past summer, we got so close, and each and every day we’re getting closer and closer, trusting each other more on the court. … Our chemistry is so good right now. We’ve just got to stick together this year, and we’re going to be great.”
Vanderbilt fans will get their first look at the team on Nov. 7 when the Commodores host Clayton State in an exhibition game. Vanderbilt opens the season at home against Mississippi Valley State on Nov. 15. Tipoff times for both those games will be announced at a later date.
