VOTE FOR TRENT

Vanderbilt sophomore Trent Sherfield, ranked among the Southeastern Conference receiving leaders, was added to the Biletnikoff Award watch list today.

Sherfield, a wide receiver from Danville (Ill.) High School, joins 70 other receivers in contention for the prestigious Biletnikoff Award, which is annually presented to the nation’s outstanding receiver. The award is open to all receivers, including tight ends, wide receivers, slot receivers and even running backs.

Sherfield currently leads the SEC with 28 receptions, four more than another Texas A&M freshman Christian Kirk, who was also added to the Biletnikoff watch list. Sherfield also ranks second to Kirk in the conference with 402 receiving yards, averaging 100.5 yards a game.

Sherfield is the first Vanderbilt receiver to earn Biletnikoff Award attention since All-America Jordan Matthews was named as a semi-finalist for the award in 2013.

Founded in 1994, the Biletnikoff Award is a season, not career, award. The sponsoring Tallahassee Touchdown Club Foundation and its national selection committee will announce a final Biletnikoff watch list in early Nomber. The 2015 Biletnikoff Award winner will be announced live by 1991 Heisman Trophy winner and former receiver Desmond Howard on Dec. 10 on ESPN’s The Home Depot College Awards show. It will be held at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta, Georgia.

The 2015 Biletnikoff Award recipient also will be honored and will receive his trophy at the Biletnikoff Award banquet, an annual black tie event attended by 600 patrons and broadcast by ESPN3, at the University Center Club, Doak Campbell Stadium, in Tallahassee on Jan. 30, 2016.

Sherfield got off to a fast start this season on Sept. 19, when he torched Austin Peay for a Vanderbilt-record 240 receiving yards on 16 catches.
