NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Starting this Wednesday, Vanderbilt soccer coach Darren Ambrose will have a weekly presence on the airwaves.
Vandy Radio will host The Darren Ambrose Show every Wednesday at 6 p.m. during the season. The half-hour show can be heard on vandyradio.com, the official site of Vanderbilt’s student radio station.
The Commodores’ first-year head coach will join the half-hour show to discuss his team’s play, recap the previous weekend and look ahead to the next games on the schedule. Ambrose, a coaching veteran with more than 20 years of experience, will also soccer fans a glimpse of more than just the Commodores. He’ll touch on the SEC and the college game, along with speaking on international and professional soccer.
Max Herz and Robbie Weinstein, both Vanderbilt juniors who serve as the radio broadcast team of all Vanderbilt home games, will host the show.
Ambrose, a native of England, spent the last 15 years at Penn, where he was the all-time winningest coach in program history. He picked up his 150th career victory as head coach on Sept. 6 when Vanderbilt defeated Dartmouth 1-0. Prior to Penn, he served as an assistant coach at Florida State, Connecticut and Rhodes College in Memphis. The former goalkeeper was the Division II National Player of the Year and an Academic All-American at USC-Spartanburg. Prior coming to the United States, he played for Sheffield United of the English League Championship and Doncaster Rovers of the English League first division.
The Commodores are 4-3-1 (1-0 SEC) a month into the 2015 season and play No. 6 Texas A&M at 6 p.m. on Friday in College Station, Texas on the SEC Network. Vanderbilt wraps up the weekend at home with Evansville at 4 p.m. on Sunday at the VU Soccer/Lacrosse Complex on SEC Network +.
